Viewpoint Foundation was established in 2001 to support the Van Wielingen family’s philanthropic initiatives.

The vision of the Foundation is to demonstrate innovation and leadership in philanthropy in Canada by focusing on strategic priorities and unique approaches to monitoring accountability. We endeavour to actively engage with our community partners through a process of regular dialogue and establishing clear accountability to achieve desired outcomes. Our second key aim is to educate the public about ethical leadership by supporting organizations, initiatives and research in that field.

Viewpoint Foundation and the Van Wielingen family have committed almost $15 million to more than 100 charitable organizations since its inception in 2001. Most of these gifts have been made to 20 key initiatives, however support has been given to a variety of causes in Canada and abroad. Today, an additional $20 million is available in the Foundation for future philanthropic initiatives.

Viewpoint Foundation operates with a seven member Board of Directors whose key role is to foster the long-term success of the foundation. The Board has the responsibility to oversee the business of the foundation and to supervise management. The Board meets quarterly to review the financial, investment and granting decisions.

Granting decisions are made by a Grant Giving Committee which includes four members from the Board of Directors and two outside members.

The members of the Board are as follows:
